Siglar Carbon : The Governments of Djbouti and Gabon have introduced a carbon pricing mechanism under the Africa Sovereign Carbon Initiative — with around 10 more African countries considering joining.

The principle is simple: polluters must pay.
While both countries share the same goal, they differ in scope (e.g. exemptions) and pricing (e.g. US$/tCO₂, caps).
Key commercial impacts:
🔹 Carbon contribution = 50% of the total carbon footprint of a ship’s journey to or from Djibouti/Gabon.
🔹 All cargo vessels must report emissions based on fuel consumption, vessel type, max. capacity, and voyage distance
🔹 Price: US$17 per tonne of CO2e.
🕑 Djbouti: Started March, 2023.
🕔 Gabon: Starting March, 2025.
At Siglar Carbon, we are committed to ensuring that the industry remains both informed and prepared as new carbon pricing mechanisms emerge globally.
