I am pleased to a recent interview in AllAfrica Global Media, highlighting the work of the Africa Sovereign Carbon Registry Foundation (ASCR Foundation) in promoting a harmonized and standardized model of Sovereign Carbon Initiatives across the continent.

Based on the polluter-pays principle, these mechanisms replicate systems already in place in developed countries (e.g.: in Europe with the EU ETS) and are now being implemented in Africa – operational in Djibouti since 2023 (financing over 50 impact, energy transition and environmental projects) and in Gabon since 2025.

During the Africa Climate Summit 2, the African Union officially endorsed the ASCR Foundation.
AU Chair H.E. Mahmoud Ali Youssouf reaffirmed : « 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑨𝑼 𝑪𝒐𝒎𝒎𝒊𝒔𝒔𝒊𝒐𝒏’𝒔 𝒄𝒐𝒎𝒎𝒊𝒕𝒎𝒆𝒏𝒕 𝒕𝒐 𝒔𝒖𝒑𝒑𝒐𝒓𝒕 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑭𝒐𝒖𝒏𝒅𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒂𝒄𝒄𝒐𝒎𝒑𝒂𝒏𝒚 𝒊𝒕𝒔 𝒊𝒏𝒊𝒕𝒊𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒗𝒆𝒔 𝒕𝒐 𝒑𝒓𝒐𝒎𝒐𝒕𝒆 𝒄𝒐𝒏𝒄𝒓𝒆𝒕𝒆 𝒔𝒐𝒍𝒖𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏𝒔 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝒄𝒍𝒊𝒎𝒂𝒕𝒆 𝒂𝒄𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏 𝒂𝒄𝒓𝒐𝒔𝒔 𝑨𝒇𝒓𝒊𝒄𝒂. »

As Corinne Lepage, former French Minister of Environment and Strategic Advisor to the Foundation, stated:
“𝑺𝒐𝒗𝒆𝒓𝒆𝒊𝒈𝒏 𝑪𝒂𝒓𝒃𝒐𝒏 𝑰𝒏𝒊𝒕𝒊𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒗𝒆𝒔 𝒆𝒏𝒂𝒃𝒍𝒆 𝑮𝒍𝒐𝒃𝒂𝒍 𝑺𝒐𝒖𝒕𝒉 𝒄𝒐𝒖𝒏𝒕𝒓𝒊𝒆𝒔 𝒕𝒐 𝒂𝒔𝒔𝒆𝒓𝒕 𝒄𝒍𝒊𝒎𝒂𝒕𝒆 𝒔𝒐𝒗𝒆𝒓𝒆𝒊𝒈𝒏𝒕𝒚, 𝒇𝒊𝒏𝒂𝒏𝒄𝒆 𝒆𝒄𝒐𝒍𝒐𝒈𝒊𝒄𝒂𝒍 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒆𝒏𝒆𝒓𝒈𝒚 𝒕𝒓𝒂𝒏𝒔𝒊𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏𝒔, 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒑𝒓𝒐𝒕𝒆𝒄𝒕 𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒊𝒓 𝒎𝒐𝒔𝒕 𝒗𝒖𝒍𝒏𝒆𝒓𝒂𝒃𝒍𝒆 𝒄𝒐𝒎𝒎𝒖𝒏𝒊𝒕𝒊𝒆𝒔.”

🌍 These initiatives respond to the climate emergency disproportionately affecting African populations – those most exposed to climate change yet least responsible for global emissions.
