In 2024, $6.5 billion in U.S. humanitarian aid was delivered to Africa. In total, 5,200 contracts were cancelled, 83% of USAIDโ€™s portfolio, leaving millions of beneficiaries without support.

Sovereign Carbon Initiatives offer an innovative mechanism: applying the Polluter Pays Principle to finance public policies aligned with national priorities.

This momentum is made possible thanks to the work of national sovereign carbon agencies and the governance of Africa Sovereign Carbon Registry Foundation, which ensures credibility, transparency, and traceability of sovereign carbon registries across the continent.
